We believe Alcove Arts couldn’t have found a better location, situated in the heart of the Far North – a unique subtropical landscape with native forests, towering waterfalls and golden sandy bays.
It has provided inspiration for many a NZ artist since the 70s when much of the existing artistic community arrived.
A key person in this creative hub was gifted artists and potter Toby Stafford who built and worked from the current studio until his passing in 2006.
His artistic contribution to the region will never be forgotten and we feel immensely privileged to be able to continue to use this site in support of local arts and the community.
The existing studios are currently undergoing renovation as an admin office, library, gallery and studio big enough for large-scale residency projects and collaborations including dance and theatre.
Alcove Arts eagerly anticipatesthe launch of its Artists In Residency program in Summer 2016
